According to Asher, “a student essay is any short composition in prose that undertakes to discuss a matter, express a point of view, or persuade us to accept a thesis on any subject.” Unlike the research paper or term paper, the student essay does not involve carrying out research. Rather, the student expresses his own opinions and ideas about a particular topic.
It is also relatively short compared to term papers or research papers. The student essay has three main parts the introduction, the body and the conclusion. The introduction is used to attract the attention of the reader and to introduce the essay. The body is used to discuss all the main points and their supporting points. Transitory paragraphs are used to move from one paragraph to the next. Lastly, the conclusion is used to bring the essay to an end.
