Critical Essay
|
A critical essay is developed to express an opinion, whether in support of or in opposition to a given topic. Like every other essay, a critical essay should begin with a thesis statement: a statement that expresses the writer’s position over a particular issue. The flow of the critical essay should be logical. It must present evidence to support its claims. This evidence should be credible and must be available for the readers to scrutinize. The critical essay should anticipate counterarguments and respond to them in a way that enhances its main line of reasoning as expressed in the thesis statement. It must be convincing enough. The critical essay should end with a conclusion that restates and therefore reinforces the main argument as expressed by the thesis statement. |
