Descriptive essays involve detailed observation from which a description of the object under observation is written. A successful descriptive essay does not tell –it shows. Like every other essay, writing a descriptive essay involves planning for the essay, drafting it and revising it until it satisfies the required standards. After getting your object of description, determine the particular aspects you would want to focus on and the reason why. Consider the smells, sounds, textures, and sights you would like to show as you draft the descriptive essay. Remove unnecessary details, include omitted details, use words that more accurately show the senses and you have your descriptive essay.
