An essay paper is a common tool for analyzing students’ analytical, writing, and organization skills. Poorly written, it lowers the grades and standing of the student, but boosts his academic standing if well done. Therefore, it is important for students to acquire basic skills on the writing of term papers.
Writing an essay paper generally involves the choice of either of the following three approaches to use: the theoretical approach, the chronological approach, or the analytical approach. Most essay papers however combine all the three approaches.
Having determined the approach or combination of approaches to follow, the writer of the essay paper will have to choose a topic, if one is not provided. It is advisable to choose a topic that one is essentially interested in. Other steps include selecting credible sources, preparing the outline, drafting the thesis statement, coming up with an initial draft, revising, re-writing, and proofreading until it is satisfactory.
