Is There a Best Non-Invasive Method for Studying Brain Function in Children?
The common myth of the last century “brain is the difficult part of the physical structure to study” was getting diminished by the technology growth these days. The brain function of the children is totally dissimilar to the adult’s one, it doesn’t mean that children’s brain is functioning comparatively lesser than of an adult’s brain. Psychologically both motor and sensory system of the brain is already started matured at birth (“Research in Brain Function and Learning”). And by age brain function related to language production, memory is started running up for small fries.
For analyzing the brain function measuring the neuronal activity of the brain was the commonly well-known technique. Measuring electrical and magnetic fields for monitoring neuronal activity fails in deep brain structure. Like overcoming those drawbacks in other imaging techniques, changes in blood oxygenation are monitored for measuring the relative hemodynamic responses to neuronal activity in FMRI (“Functional imaging and associated techniques,” n.d.). And FMRI provides sufficient quality results of children, even under 7 years of age.
While comparing with other equal imaging techniques FMRI was a danger-free pure non-invasive method and it takes more advantage in spatial resolution. But FMRI is expensive and has a poor temporal resolution while comparing with EEG-based techniques (“Functional imaging and associated techniques,” n.d.).
Even FMRI has some other forms which are all so much more useful than other existing techniques we can’t submit this as a best non-invasive method because of the above drawbacks. Only in the future, we can expect the 100% best non-invasive method.
